Photography Performing Humor

Sandra Križić Roban is part of international conference “Photography Performing Humor” (13–14 April 2016) with the lecture “Elements of humor in proto- and conceptual photograpy in Croatia”.

“The proto-conceptual and conceptual photography is one of the ways of artistic transgression from the rational into the absurd. A combination of motifs and a change of context generated humorous comments referring to reality and social norms. Actions, performances and sequences characterise selected conceptual strategies that challenge different meanings. Photographs analyse and destabilise the system of that period, leaving viewers disoriented in an art environment while unusual, absurd visions of daily life and scepticism are mellowed by a significant amount of humour and irony.”

The conference will explore the nature and meaning of the relationship between photography, performance and humor within the field of visual arts and visual culture.
