Research within the CRUX project in Zadar

During the month of June, the first field investigations and sampling of artworks were carried out as part of the newly established project CRUX, led by Dr Matko Marušić by the support of the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ).

Crucifixes from the treasury of the Franciscan monastery and the Church of St. Michael in Zadar, which are among the oldest surviving crucifixes on the Adriatic, were photographed in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum. In situ analyses of the painted layers were also conducted using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) and micro-Raman spectrometry.

Finally, within the campaign artworks in Zadar, Privlaka, Sveti Filip i Jakov, Ćokovac (Pašman), and on the island of Rab (Barbat, Rab, and Kampor) were photo-documented.
