Invited Lecture by Ana Šverko at Kiel University
Ana Šverko will deliver the invited lecture Diocletian's Palace: House, City, Quarter – An Imperial Residence and Its Urban Transformations on 7 July 2026 at Kiel University (CAU), hosted by the Department of Classical Archaeology and the Collection of Classical Antiquities.
The lecture is part of the international lecture series Traces and Reflections of Antiquity in the Residences of Europe, which brings together scholars exploring the reception of antiquity in European architecture, urbanism, and cultural heritage. The presentation will discuss Diocletian's Palace as a unique example of a Late Antique imperial residence that gradually evolved into a living urban quarter. Particular attention will be given to the relationship between ancient architecture and the contemporary city, as well as to the transformation, continuity, and preservation of historic urban structures.
The invitation was extended by Kiel University and comes in the year in which Split, Kiel, and Brest are jointly participating in the European initiative Science Comes to Town. More information about the lecture series here.
The lecture presents research carried out within the UrbArh project.
