Discovering Dalmatia XI
Eleventh Edition of the “Discovering Dalmatia” Programme in Split
The annual programme of scholarly and research events "Discovering Dalmatia", organised by the Institute of Art History – Cvito Fisković Centre in Split, in collaboration with the Split City Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, is taking place this year for the eleventh time, from 8 to 13 December. The programme grew out of a scholarly conference organised in 2014 to mark the 250th anniversary of the publication of Robert Adam's book on Diocletian's Palace, and has been further developed through the Institute's projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, (Grand Tour Dalmatia, Travelogues Dalmatia), dedicated to travel writing on Dalmatia.
With the support of the Croatian Science Foundation, the City of Split, the Tourist Board of the Split-Dalmatia County, and Split's museums, a rich programme is shaped each year, encompassing scholarly conferences, specialised workshops, and events intended for the wider cultural public. This year's edition will include, among other things, the presentation of the scholarly volume "Vlaho Bukovac – The Artist and His Work", edited by Irena Kraševac and Petar Prelog, as well as the volume "Travel Stories and the Eastern Adriatic. With a Section About the Travels of Thomas Graham Jackson", edited by Katrine O'Loughlin, Ana Šverko and Elke Katharine Wittich.
A three-day international scholarly conference, open to the public and dedicated to the relationship between image and text in travel writing, will also be held at the Old City Hall. Through a series of papers by international experts, travel writing will be examined as a complex visual-textual narrative. The programme will additionally feature a number of public lectures.
